Harvesting onions?

A few weeks a go our onions took a bit of a battering from the weather. The shoots were flattened on most of them, and then eaten as they lay on the ground. A few have since picked up but the majority have lost all of their greenery.

Should I harvest them all now? The thing is even though they have no shoots they all look nice and healthy with no sign of rotting or anything. Will they keep better sitting in the ground rather than in my shed? Or will they just bolt or rot?

In my opinion No!!

I would lift them and store them upside down for a few weeks then string them up.

This is how I do it;

Thanks, I'll take your advice and get them up tomorrow.

It would be gutting to lose them to a bad discision. I'm so chuffed we have any after losing them all to onion fly last year  :)
