Growing veg abroad.

My friend is going to live in Portugal. She would like to grow some runner beans& I have suggested cut& come again lettuce. Would the beans grow over winter do you think.

One of my lottie neighbours has UK friends in Gozo - they can't get runners to set... he has to fly out there with as many as possible. Me, I'd grow the climbing French ones that look like runners!

Always makes sense to look at what the locals are growing... but then try what you want, they might overwinter in the ground and come up before it gets too hot and dry?  :-\

She only has a patio so whatever she grows will have to be in pots. I thought about french beans but didn't think she would get much of a crop.

Use quality compo in the pots. No problem growing. If she's facing the Atlantic, don't expect winter flowering. The season is longer than UK so early and later flowering is on the cards.
