I dont actually think there are many troll's on here. Just a few peeps that seem to have bad social skills or just type the wrong thing (if you know what i mean), not knowing there winding others up with what they write, i expect there just the same when talking face to face. Being really rude back to them, ganging up on them, is pointless - and may actually really offend them.

In my view a troll is someone who specifically comes on a forum just to wind people up and start an arguement.

Yes, I think I know what Keef's getting at.  Don't know if he had anyone specific in mind when he wrote the above, but we both know someone like this.

This chap would never be found on a forum (he wouldn't know where to start with a PC), but in person, he's somewhat eccentric and can be very rude in his idea of joking.   At the same time he's knowledgeable in certain areas, can be very helpful (often in an interfering sort of way!) and at bottom has a heart of gold.  Everyone who knows him just accepts him for the way he is.

I'm sure Keef will recognise who I'm talking about  ;).  Lord knows what havoc he'd wreak if he ever did discover the internet and join a forum ...  ;D

I'd like to consider this thread closed, please, as J. has also started a post about dealing with Forum bullies and I don't want to appear to be creating a 'contentious' thread and then abandoning it without further input.

Want to say, tho, that in the 8+ years of membership of various Forums, I can't ever remember being so concerned about the unpleasantness I've been reading here which prompted this thread.

I respect Palustris and have known him for ages and ages;Ninnyscrops I don't 'know' but their joint contribution here have been confirmation for me that something's wrong...

Cheers all, Lishka
