Hi all,
Haven't been here for a while!
My onions and garlic are going furry/rotten in storage! We don't have a decent cool/dry place to store them.
Options are:
i) Leave them in the polytunnel (not much growing in there (so it's not too steamy), but it will get hot/cold frequently through winter if it's sunny, and its not totally watertight)
ii) Get one of those dehumidifiers that looks like a portable air conditioner and give the chest I'm currently storing them in a good dry out every now and then. The chest is in the coldest room in the house, but I don't want to leave them loose in the room because they're a bit smelly.

What do you all think?

I store my garlic and shallots in the blue allotment trays which allow the air to circulate

Onions used to be stored hanging up in apple trees, plaited into a rope by the tops. This allowed plenty of ventilation and frost does not affect them.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. I've got them in a metal chest after letting them dry for a while in the polytunnel. I've left the lid open now, and they don't seem to be making the room smell. When I left the lid closed they were getting furry mould all over them.
So I'm persuaded not to buy any more electrical gadgets!
Thanks
- Paddy
