I put a post on here a couple of weeks ago, with regards to what to do with a glut of turnips. Well the problem has been solved for me. Last night i noticed that alot are rotting.

They grew well, good shape and size and they were fine . However, they are crowded by spinach one one side and parsnips on the other, so i'm not sure if its clubroot, or just crowded conditions that have caused the problem.

Any advice please?

I've taken them all out, the rotten ones and foilage have been disposed off into the dustbin. Those that looked healthy and firm are sitting in a bucket in my shed awaiting their fate - so the next question is, if it is clubroot, should i dispose off them all, healthy looking or not?

And finally, if it is clubroot, then in the near vicinity i am growing parsnips, beetroots, carrots and swedes. Are they likely to contract it and should i get them out and salvage what i can?

Thanks for reading

Only swedes from that list are prone to clubroot....
most likely they are being attacked by botrys or some other "soft rot" in the damp and dark under the other foliage...  ???

I'm glad to hear that.

I didn't think it was clubroot, because i understand that actually makes the roots misshapen - correct me if i'm wrong - but all the turnips were fine in shape. Plus they're not from the brassica family either.

A lesson for me, not too sow the rows too close together.

You were right first time - turnips are brassicas and they can get clubroot.  If they had it, the roots would be misshapen.

I stand corrected. But as the roots weren't misshapen, i'll go with saddad's theory.

Thanks both for responses.
