What are these vegetables used for?

Wasn't something like that used flavoured as various fruits  in those 'exceedingly good' fruit pies? until somebody took the time to read the lable.

Hi, many years ago i worked on the farm, one of my dutties was to make the feed for the cows, which ingreediants included chopped mangel and mixed with maize built up in layers ie  a layer of chopped mangle then a layer of maize,    anyhow back to the subject lol, a mangel is a large type of turnip sort of thing but ive never known anyone grow them to eat

let us know how they taste, i seem to remember that they smell like very strong turnip,
