I have a corner of my allotment which is rather shaded and wet.

Anyway it gets sun but is not in open sun. It also gets rather wet in Winter. Can anybody suggest suitable crops. This is Warwickshire (Midlands) clay area.

I have grown good lettuice there this year as they don't get enough sun to bolt. Also have in the past grown cucumbers as it is has sun during some of the day.

Suggestions please?

I'm thinking of maybe a perennial vege, will have a quick look through the books for one that might like that soil environment. Oh and i was told yesterday by a very helpful member here that celery likes boggy conditions so may be that might be a good crop for there next year. Please correct me if i'm wrong anybody. :)

Rhubarb Thrasher

does that area have a big slug problem?

what about rhubarb?

artichoke

Red and black currants and gooseberries are woodland plants, so I'm trying them in my shady areas. Not much to report yet as they are young cuttings, but growing away strongly. I grow rhubarb under my apple tree to cow it (the rhubarb) into submission, but it seems to love it there. So does lovage, which I grow there for the same reason.

I've heard that raspberries can tolerate shade, as they are also woodland plants, but I haven't tried.
