Blackcurrants and blackberries

I have just picked some raspberries, redcurrants and blackcurrants and cooked with sugar but put too much water in.  Can I add some blackberries I have in the freezer from last year to thicken it up as I want to make a pie/tarts or will I poison the hubby.  I know blackberries and apples mix but do blackberries mix with currants.

Hi there, yes blackberries mix well with currants, I often by frozen mixed fruit bags which have the combination you are using...it is really tasty  ;D

A salutary lesson - you do not need any water whwn cooking soft fruit, either for eating or preserving as jam.

If you are adding sugar, sprinkle over the fruit andleave a few hours to leach some of the water out of the fruit if not, sart on a low heat and stir regularly.

I have just made a batch of strawberry, raspberry, blackcurrant and loganberry mixed jam.

Thanks for that.  I added water, big mistake.  Have added the blackberries and it tastes good but a bit watery.  Next time I will do it better.  Felt I had to cook the redcurrants, blackcurrants as had backache picking them.  Have already made blackcurrant jelly and redcurrant jelly and jam.  Now I have to buy a blender as my mint sauce, chopped up with scissors doesn't look too good.  Got my first runner beans today.  At least I know how to cook them.  I have baked pastry blind, as I already have too many courgettes and am going to make a quiche/flan.  Last year my neighbours left notes on their doors, please no more courgettes, although my Chinese neighbour left me six packets of crisps and chocolate for the grandchildren.
I think allotments should come with a health warning.  They are so addictive, had one week's holiday in June and the first thing I did when I got home was to go to the allotment.  Also cannot shop for anything that is not allotment related and have a very bad habit of looking in skips.  Apart from being addicted to Allotments 4 all and Allotment lady site on the computer.  Hope my tart/pies turn out OK.

Yes Borlotti I know what you mean today I was walking back to my car after meeting a friend for coffee and first I came across a skip which as it was in the high street i peered into from a distance so nobody would notice....nothing much just rubble. Further on I passed the back yard of the local auction rooms and noticed bundles of tools marked at low prices so i went in for a closer look and discovered a coil of perfectly good garden hose marked at £2 about 20ish feet (and I thought hoops for cloche!). So i bought that, the guy I paid seemed to think it was an odd purchase for a woman.
