I weeded the bed that my cue's are in this morning and as I pulled out the weeds loads of ants went running.  So, think there must be an ant's nest in this bed, will the ants affect the growing of my cue's?

They will if they get into the root system-I would use an ant killer just to be on the safe side

Thanks Cleo.  I like ants so wont be killing them I'd better see where I can move the cue's to.

I always wondered who it was who liked ants.
Now I know

I always think they do more good than harm, and leave them alone. If your cucs aren't in a pot, I doubt whether an ants' nest would affect them.

Can't say they bother me either way (except those viscous little red sods), and like Robert I can't see them causing damage to the cucumber. I'd just let them be!

Thanks Robert and Ollie, I could never have killed the ants would rather have moved the cue's but will leave them where they are now.

Have a thriving colony of black ants in one of my cucumber pots. Doen't appear to be a problem at present, in fact the plant appears healthier and the cues are more developed. They don't like being watered though!!
