can anyone tell me wether to water onions ? down at the allotments some say water some not sure wether to or not!!!!!!!!!!!!

That depends on the weather. Water if dry and stop watering when the bulbs are full this helps ripening off.
When you wake up on a morning say "good morning world" and be grateful

I would'nt bother, but then i rarley water anything except newly planted out stuff - the rest has to fend for its self..

If you put them in last autumn they should be fending for themselves now, and the tops should be falling over.  They need to dry out more than they need water.

I rarely water my onions at all.  They are usually hardy enough to fend for themselves.

I agree with Daveyw1, Onions are fairly shallow rooted so when growing need watering if soil around them is very dry.
