Keyboard problem.

Hi all,
I have noticed that if I leave my desktop computor switched off (at the mains) while away for a couple of weeks, when I return the keyboard doesn't work. This happened recently after a month away - again switched off.
I managed to do a restore to a setting which I knew was O.K, but why does this happen? The BIOS battery should be fine.
