Good Idea From Franchi

I sowed a packet of Franchi carrots today. When I opened the packet, all the seeds were blue. I thought-what's occurring, Gromit, then when I sowed them I twigged - it's so you can see where they've gone

But what have they used to make them blue? I seem to remember sweet Corn used to come Pink then they stopped using that fungicide...  :-\

and a very weird blue it was too. They certainly didn't go over them all with a biro

I have some orange carrot seeds. I was told that the coatings are to aid germination.

i think its more that just being able to see where they are i have seen other seeds with these kind of coverings and always believed that this was so A) the seed did not rot and b) it aided germination.

I have some  onion seed with a metallic blue covering from French seed company Beaumaux  On the packet it says it's treated with 'thirame' (that would be the French name of the chemical)

So i assume that these are chemical coatings. mmmm?

w interesting. I'd look at the packet more closely but it's in the compost bin. But it's got nothing to do with the seeds being coloured

The coating on the seeds is a chemical to increase and accelerate germination. Its also to help with the grower not passing on disease. There are different colours for different chemicals.
So if you think you are totally organic your not LOL

to my horror I opened a packed of leek seeds from Moles the other day and found them to be bright green - pretty sure it is a chemical, been treated for something but it didn't say so in the catalogue  >:(
