do I treat gherkins the same as cucumbers, do they need to be grown in a cold greenhouse, or can I put them outside at the lottie, how do I manage them do they look like cucumber plants that I just pick when they are smaller, or do they stop growing at a certain size

well im not an expert but i had a friend who inherited some gherkin plants when she bought her house. in my view they looked vey similar to sprawling ridge cucumbers. she had just left them tho and they grew the size of a small ridge cucumber and stopped producing new growth.

id say pick loads, as small as you like. id guess they may need the ends pinched out of trailing stems to form sideshooots which im guessing would be the fruit bearing laterals but im basing this on my knowledge of squash production.

dunno, Lidl sell them very cheap by the jarful i cant imagine giving my time and energy to them. good luck

A lot depends on the variety.

Are there no instructions on the seed packet?

Cucumbers can be very delicate indeed even curl up from a cold draught.

caseylee

No I bought the seeds at lidls and the instructions are rubbish
