We just saw "Amazing Grace" about William Wilberforce and slavery.
Well done!
I'd read the biography about him William Wilberforce" Hero for Humanity which, though somewhat repetitious in spots, peaked my interest.
Just wondering what real Brits think of it? Wish we had more politicians like him today. Scarce as hens teeth.

I haven't seen it yet but will do.

Wilberforce was my childhood hero, I loved and still do love the Museum here in Hull which is his birthplace, in fact it played a very big part in my life.

What started as a childhood fascination has turned in to quite a study of slavery and I have rather a large collection of books and other stuff on the subject.

Scarce as hen's teeth...I haven't heard that one since I crossed the big pond.

I am really looking forward to seeing this movie.

He spent a bit of time down here in his latter days as his son, Samuel was the vicar at Brightstone. I used to do the garden of the house they used. (No not then) Alan Titchmarsh featured it on one of his programmes. Now our nursery is not far from the Wilberforce hall.

The movie didn't deal at all with his philanthropy or how he became homeless.
Wish they'd make a sequel.
