I have got a greenhouse but it doesn't have any ventilator in the roof. I have some aluminium L shapes pieces and wondered if it woyuld be possible to make a ventilator - has anybody done this?

Otherwise is it possible to buy one to fit. I think the width of glass is generally 2 ft.

Both these listed products are usually a universal fit.

This automatically opens when it gets too warm.  Just attach it to the top opening window in the roof.

Or this for manual opening.  It attaches to the rear of a greenhouse by removing one of the sheets of glass.

Just fit the Argos one to mine works a treat and a doddle to fit

That's not what was asked, he hasn't got a ventilator in the roof. The Argos one is an automatic opener for an existing roof vent, it appears to be a Guardman.

If you know what make the greenhouse is, I would contact the makers to obtain an opening rooflight (just the frame) get the glass locally from a glass merchant. Other than that, you will need to be good at engineering. Get some alloy angle to make up a rooflight and you will also need a length of angle to make a rail for the rooflight to close onto.

I have a similar problem, I've got the rooflight but not the rail.

It is possible to get a pane of glass cut with a hole in it and a small plastic fan put in that hole.

We had decades ago, in the kitchen before, double glazing.

It is also possible to get a pane rather like a louvre where the glass opens or closes to form a vent and replace a pane of glass with this.

Ask your glass merchant, they have all sorts of things.

Or you could just leave the greenhouse door ajar.

Vortex

You don't have to have roof vents, although they are a quick way of removing excess heat. Two Wests & Elliot sell louvre vent kits for £26. They'll fit any standard aluminum greenhouse. You take out an existing 2ft square section of glass, cut it into strips, fit the louvre vent, and slot the glass into the slats. You can get automatic openers for these as well. Its the next addition to mine, as at 12'x10' on a hot day the roof vents can't cope even with the door open. The vent will go directly opposite the door.

Yes you do need roof vents at least two and leave the door open in summer as well if you want to avoid crazy temperature spikes during the day.
