cantalope seeds

I have saved some seeds from a cantolope melon I had the other day.  I was wondering if anyone else has tried to grow these or from a saved seed aswell.

i tried las t year but left the plants out and they got frosted :( but they gre well, had flowers and everythin!!

Two years ago I grew a melon plant from self saved seeds.
I grew it outside without shelter or hot bed. It produced four fruits that tasted like real melons, but lacked in sugar. I assume that Dutch summers are just not sunny enough for them.

Last year my plants in cold frames did nothing. Just a stem and a few small leaves and one (1) flower. But then we had the same weather as you: it was raining all summer.
This year I'll try to grow melons in a hot bed. Hopefully they don't need sugar added.

I am trying to grow melons this year but not from saved seed though. From what I've read our summers for shop bought stuff is not long enough. They grow, flower and set but the melon just don't ripen quick enough before the frost.

However i did my research and went for one called Minnesota midget. 70 days to maturity and hopefully it will manage it hear in West Yorkshire. It has been bred for short summers. So fingers crossed.

As for Tee Gee that is an impressive selection. Were the melon grown in a greenhouse or outside? and most importantly did they taste as good as they look?

Not as sweet  or as big and ripe as the original, hope to do a bit better this year. i.e. learning from last years mistakes.
