Thanks all for the replies! Yeah, I went through a phase of planting everything inside. Here in the west of Ireland, its nothing but cold and lots of rain. I was afraid that everything would get drowned!

That said, I bit the bullet and planted most of my leggy lanky lettuce out yesterday evening and will see how it goes.

Ive an old fishbox from the trawlers so thats where they went in. Approx 8 inches of soil under them.

Ive also put some seeds in to germinate in the box with them to see if "outside" seeds fare differently.

In answer to the few questions asked above.........

1) Soil to rich?........................Quite likely.
2) Too close together?...........Most definatly.
3) Low levels of Light.............Wouldnt say so, on a widow sill after they popped their heads up.

Thanks again!
