Should I put grit around my tumbling tomatoes?

I have my tumbling tomatoes in 10 inch pots but the leaves are touching the soil.  Could someone please let me know if it is a good idea to put a layer of grit around the plants?  I intend to keep them in the pots rather than having them in hanging baskets.  Any advice is much appreciated.

Hi Pauline.  Yes, I'd put a layer of grit on top.  Not only does it stop the soil spashing the leaves/fruits but it also helps with water retention.

Thanks Georgie, I will go and get that done.  I think I may have some really early tomatoes as there are flower buds on them already.   ;D ;D

I think you will beat me hands down as my greenhouse isn't heated.  I put fleece over them at night though and they are snug in their polystyrene fish boxes.   ;D
