Lily beetles have survivd the cold winter

Hi All,

I leave patches of old foliage in my flower garden to provide a winter mulch and overwintering space for beneficial insects.  I was clearing around a couple of them yesterday and discoverd some live lily beetles.  I had assumed they would be killed off by the long hard frosts we've had here ( Cheshire & exposed garden on top of a ridge), but not so.

Might be worth a check around if you suffered last year as they were at least sluggish so I had no trouble catching & squishing them.

oh how I hate the lily beetle so pretty such a pain , have scrapped all my lilies in pots cause they ravaged them going to wait a couple of years before i replace but might try some new stock up the plot

I also, was just doing a bit of pre-season clearing up and found a few.

I think the grub things drop off the leaves in Autumn and turn into adults over winter.

Its always easier to kill the eggs/grubs than the adults..
