Hello

I have a council bought black compost bin with a lid for home composting. I have in that bin tiny maggots around 2mm in size and also small brown flies. My question is how would I get rid of them with out harming all the other good beasties like the worms and woodlice ect.

Thanks all.

Although they can be annoying the maggots & flies are helping to break down the material, as they don't often venture outside the bin they will be composted themselves in time too.
If you want to get rid of them then cover food scraps with shredded paper or a thin layer of soil.

Are these mushroom flies or fruit flies?
