Sowing Leeks in Winter

I read about some leeks that can be sown in late winter.  Anyone had experience of this?

There are 'earlies' and 'late' varieties of leeks. Early varieties are tall, slim and less hardy than  the others. Sow seed in spring in the cold greenhouse, cold frame or nursery bed, in temperatures of at least 7 degrees C' between March & May. They are usually ready for early summer. Some early varieties include King Richard which is an abundant cropper apparently, Jolant and Mammoth Blanch.
