Anyone know whats happened to this cauliflower.....

It was sold to me as a plant and labelled Wallaby F1, as well as all the small plants you see it had a 5ft tap root that was covered in plants.

The main cauliflower failed to produce anything.

Any ideas? I asked everyone on my site but nobody had seen anything like it before.

I think the best description I can come up with is 'weird'.

They look like seedlings round the base stem.  Have you considered planting some of them out to see what happens?  Nothing ventured, etc!!

Suzanne

Is your lottie near Sellafield?

cornykev

Looks like a wallyflower.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

I have put some of them in pots today to see what happens.

Your cauliflower appears to have some disease. The leaves show severe mottling. The new growth at the base has sprouted where the plant has been injured, either by disease or insect attack.
I would destroy the lot, before it infects anything else.

The main original plant was attacked by SwedeMidge which made the main plant go Blind. the roots are still alive and the plant still wants to produce seed so the plant is attempting to throwing up more heads, hence flowers and seed.

Uncle Joshua

Thanks for that LesH, I'll look up SwedeMidge in the hope of avoiding it in the future.

sawfish

thats one creepy looking cauli.  :-\

Biscombe

Oh no!! swede midge, a real problem for me! I hope you don't have it, or brassicas will be difficult to grow! the buggers live in the soil lay eggs and keep coming back, very hard to get rid of! If it is you need to pull and burn!

Biscombe

Did the plant go blind first? and look like this????

Uncle Joshua

That looks like my wifes cooking.  ;D

The plant looked normal but didn't come to anything.

Biscombe

Not swede midge then  ;D ;D ;D pleased for you!
