Hi Scunnybunny, I would say, listen to what your allotment neighbours have to say, think about it, maybe act on it but remember that they too are novices but with a bit more experience under their belt! We were given so much advice when we took on our plot but loads of it was conflicting!! People mean well but sometimes they are telling you what they would do and it might not be the best advice, just nod say thanks and if the advice is good then use it but don't be afraid to do what YOU want to do. It's your plot and you will learn from your mistakes, I've only had my plot since last November and I've learnt so much already, from neighbours and LOTS of my own mistakes!  ::)

As others on here have said, enjoy it, it is supposed to be fun, don't take it too seriously and remember that you CAN change things if they don't work out as you expected.

HI and welcome to the site  :)

I can't add anything more to the excellent advice that you've had here already, so I'll just say Hi!

Also, check out our seed swap.  People are always offering spare seeds - and don't be afraid to put a request in for anything - we don't bite!

And if you feel overwhelmed with your new plot, don't worry - come round here and do mine instead!

(See? Told you we're friendly)

Hi from another Newbie - we sound like we're in exactly the same position as you and only took ours over last Tuesday so very steep learning curve ahead - but one we're looking forward to.

I must say, everyone here is so friendly and approachable - it's fast becoming a favourite website  ;D

When I got mine 18 months or so ago, the thing that made it feel most real was putting up my shed.

It made my plot feel "grounded" (no pun intended) and gave it a feeling of permanence, as well as being somewhere for me to hide from the rain (and the mad man who walks along the path next to my plot every lunchtime, on his way back from a VERY successful visit to the pub, and comments on everthing I'm doing )

Plant some spring bulbs too, daffs, tulips, anything cheerful that will make you feel that spring is really on it's way when they start to bloom

Good luck
