HI Guys,

vandals have hit the site today and it looks like my plot was targeted.

Having lost 1 pumpkin to animals i had made a cage with tree guards to protect the other big one. The idiots have lifted the cage pulled the fruit off the plant ( dont know if this will kill the plant but it looks ok ) and hidden it by the look of it they had intended on comming back for it. I have taken all my tools home and the pumpkin which is cracked across the bottom.

If its anything like the pumpkin i have already started its still got some green inside and the taste is not fully developed.

I am going to be roasting the 1/2 of the 1st pumpkin to get the pumpkin puree i need for a recipie but any ideas on how long the 2nd pumpkin will last with a wide crack across the bottom. The pumkin weighs in at 9lb.

not sure i am 99% certain they were going to come back, it was the way that the pumpkin had been hidden. Will see what the sites like tomorrow.

I'm so sorry to hear this. Some people can be so mindless. >:(

Hope they don't strike again... :(

 >:(  Muppets. I'm sure there are other words I could think of but probably wouldn't be able to use them on here. Hope you don't have any more grief.
What I lack in ability and experience, I make up for in sheer enthusiasm!!!

thanks guys!

I errected a low level fence with bags of sand and wood last night so if they try retracing there steps and are not looking they will go flying  ;D

I always find that once cut the flesh develops a mould within a week at house temps..
Sorry to hear about the vandalism..
:(

cambourne7

thanks.

I am going to follow supersprouts instructions to mush down and freeze. That way i can make soup and gnocchi the problem is that there are still some green bits in the flesh so i know its not ripe and having roasted some it does not have a massive flavour.

saddad

Did I post that spicy pumpkin soup recipe?
:-\

Sparkly

So sorry to hear about your pumpkin. Our site is quite secure but there have been cases of vandalism or theft in the past.

People can be so cruel.  I hope the second pumpkin is ripe all the way through so you can do something with it.

scumbags is what they are. It's rotten when you work hard to make things look nice and then they ruin it. So far this year our end of the site has been left alone but everytime we go we expect the worst. Sad world sometimes
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

flowerlady

If you are truely worried about the 'keeping' aspect ... why not freeze it in large slices ??  I do this with my butternuts (peeled) when I do not wish to use all of it!

May an enormous hard baked pumpkin be dropped from the top floor of a block of flats on to their moronic tiny brained heads. Not that it would harm their non existent brains but it might damage their skip caps and soil their white trainers.

cambourne7

shirlton - thanks yep thats why i stripped my site of all to tools

Flowerlady - i might try that for a few slices for later roasting :)

Sawfish - Would they really notice if it hit them on the head? No sence no feeling!!
