First Carrots

I have really struggled to establish a single carrot this year, but I persevered using saddad's method..........................and I THINK I have the beginnings of a carrot crop  :D

Now the trick is to let them get stronger so the slugs don't hoover them all up!!
Took me 10 years to work out how to get decent germination on my soil...

I sowed 3 rows yesterday Autumn King. Did it TeeGee's way. Will see how it goes

When did you sow your carrots.  I have a bucket full but they are still very wee.  Germinated well though in the bucket.

I have been getting good germination outside by covering with plastic sheeting.  The first lot I rigged up supports to keep it off the ground, but the wind blew it off and it lay directly on the soil.  Thought I had blown it, but the germination was superb, so since then I have just put the plastic straight on the soil.  Take it off after about a week.   Excellent results.

Half a  miles away at the allotment the germination is great without any special efforts at all.  Soil totally different and much windier at the allotment, but temperatures and rain the same.
