Spikes on cucumbers

Hi guys,

I was given some young cuke plants a while ago which I accepted gratefully.  I didn't know anything about them at the time and therefore didn't know what questions to ask first.

I read a few articles and books about them and have worked out that it's an all female variety but that's it!

The fruits are about 10" long, firm, fat and dark green in appearance, but they have tiny sharp spines on them which I can rub off. 

Trouble is, all of the literature I have read doesn't mention these and I don't know if I'm supposed to rub them off or if they fall off and that's how I know that they're ready?? 

Any help will be gratefully accepted!

Complete novice here too but I do know that out of the cucs I've grown in the past some varieties have little spike things and some don't.  I've picked and eaten at various sizes and they've been fine.

Some varieties have them, some don`t.

Sounds like a Burpees Tasty Green cucumber and ready for pulling. Just wipe the spikes off after pulling the cucumber

Could be marketmore also, just rub em off
