This is the second year for my strawberry plant. It is just one plant growing in a tub.  I don't seem to get many strawberries but they are really lovely.
Can I put any runners in a new tub or could it grow in one of those plastic hanging bags that have slits? I have two and don't like the way they look with Impatiens.

Peg the tips of the runners down in 3" pots of MPC, and leave for about 3 weeks. You should then be able to sever them from the parent plant , and hey presto....new strawberry plants for next year.
Grow your own and enjoy the fruits of your labours,
Regards Alan.

Instead of a tub why not get (or make) a strawberry barrel - takes up no more ground space than a tub, can take a dozen or more plants, easily netted against birds if necessary, and comparatively slug free.

Have a look in here to see how to do it (with pictures)

Do you know a good source for old barrels ?

Davholla, for several years I used an old 45 gallon plastic water butt which had split at the base.  I simply drilled 1 inch diameter holes at suitable intervals, then I took a piece of piece of 1 inch diam plastic water pipe, drilled a lot of 5 mm holes in a staggered pattern at 6 inch intervals in it, stuffed a cork in the bottom, stood it upright in the centre of the butt, and filled up the butt around it with a mixture of 50% soil and 50% well rotted compost with several handfulls of bonemeal and a packet of Chempak Potting Base mixed in, planting up the holes in the butt as I backfilled.  Watering was done by simply filling up the plastic pipe from the top. I had 25 plants in that butt, replacing them every 3 years, and got excellent crops.
