I got a whole plot!!!

The plot behind me became free at the weekend and it is now MINE, mine all mine!!
have inherited strawbs, 6 goosegog bushes, pink and green, 1 large redcurrant and blackcurrant. Some feverfew and lemon balm in the herb patch too. Oh and a squillion raspberries. It was really overgrown, full of  poppies which were just beautiful and meadowy but it's only mine if i get rid of them all. Sniff. oh well, they'll be back next year hee hee.
So, OH might not have a job but hopefully we won't starve!!!

Did the inherited soft fruit carry fruits or were they too overgrown?With a clever planting scheme you don't need to starve. Enjoy your plot.

Nice one Emmy. I wonder why it was given up. Reminds me of mine I let go due to vandels and thieves. Left behind, s'berrys, red, white and black current, g'gogs, plum tree, raspberries, r'barb, assorted herbs and a self watering system...Grrr!

Lucky you!!  All that fruit and herbs is a big bonus.  We inherited half a plot of raspberries, which were all manky, mixed with bindweed and nettles, and all the rubbish that people chucked over the fence.  The poppies are so pretty, it's a shame to get rid of them all.  Those and the marigolds are a nice splash of colour among the green of the veggies  :) :) :) :)

Hi all. You can't keep a good man down! OH got work with his mate for few months while we sort out setting up own business. He's great on the plot too and has grown more attached to it as we've gone on. All those carpentry skills! He's making my compost bins at the weekend hopefully. Such a good boy.  ;D
Kenkew - the plot was given up because the chap who had it before was just too busy to manage it. 4 kids and one on way, important job etc. I would have handed in notice a week or two later myself and harvested all the fruit for the freezer!
I haven't got rid of all the poppies asbean! I think because i've not had the half plot long i have to prove myself to the old boys and they HATE flowers so that was one proviso. Poppies go. Well, you can't keep them down either so they'll be back next year. I kept loads of the heads as they were the big pink ones so i hope they'll dry out ok.

I've decided to tell them i need to grow the poppies as a crop for the seeds. Ha.  ;D ;)

On that subject J, I had 6 pump ke mons germinate and lost 2 to slugs/snails as babies. The beans are rocking away but a few rotted in the pot before germination. I have found the triofona violetta the hardest to start. The sweetcorn are looking great and the squashes - well 'really big' is exactly that and bonbon are going for it. Crystal apple cukes went in at the weekend and the black trifele toms are doing well on the kitchen windowsill. I will pot them on at the weekend.
Loving squash growing, they are such vigorous happy plants.  ;D

Ahh brilliant news - i keep looking at my plots and see that i am working my way north. The northern plot is pretty much clear, the southern plot which is the first one i got is sooooo weedy i cant see my potatos or any other plants for that matter.  I guess i could just leave it and take the next northern plot which has been dragged all spring and lovely but dont think the association would like it!

Emmy, make notes about that "Really Big" I am growing it too, but you will be ahead of me cos the vandals got my first lot. You maybe the only one that has it if mine don't mature. When I ordered the seeds, the company's ad stressed they were huge. This is what prompted me to have a go.Usually I don't grow Butternuts but I could'nt resist that one.

My pumpkins all died waiting in the greenhouse to get planted out, although the courgettes survived. I think, tomoorow being summer solstice an all I'll sow some more in the dungheap and see how they do. Cover it with fleece to give them a head start.
