I have started to clear my potato bed (by eating them !!!) and want to use the space for something else. I know that in rotation this can be used for root crops and I am interested in growing carrots as my earlier sowings were not successful specially after my youngest thought he would do some hoeing for me to help !!!

Can anyone recommend a variety of carrot that I can so now for late use. I am after the traditional long-rooted types which are the normal orange colour. Preferably good storers as well for over winter use.

I agree they are a very good carrot. they are supposed not to be so prone to carrot fly but I fleece mine anyhow
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

I have sown Autumn King up to the end of August and was still eating them from the ground this March... the later you sow the smaller they are if you dig them for store but in a mild winter like last year and a bit of fleece andd they keep on growing!

I agree, Autumn King (2) are the best growers in my allotment, certainly. Just about to thin mine (when it dries out a bit), the thinnings are an annual delight, served raw (just washed) with freshly made aioli ...
