Whats the best way to sharpen garden tools, like secatures(not spelt right i know) & garden shears. I know you are supposed to keep them clean & sharpen them but don`t know how or what to use  ???

Hi Sunflower
I have a pocket diamond file that is really neat - and it works too!  The file fits telescopically into the handle (if you see what I mean) so this rtoects it whilst no in use.  Got it from Focus.  You can buy sharpeners online from Harrods Horticultural (so I'm sure you can get them elsewhere too!) especially for secateurs, etc.

In this village, we use to have a man who came to sharpen everyone's tools.  Sadly, that tradition apprears to be obsolete these days.  Why, are we too cautious to allow them to do it, are we too sniffy to think that anyone can teach us anything new.  It's a terrible shame that we, as a nation, don't embrace the continental way of appreciating small entrepeneurs.  However, given our governmental system, it is hardly surprising.

It's a little topical at present but does anyone else still feel that, when we signed up to the common market, we still didn't realise that the UK government was signing us up to so much more than we realised at the time?  We may gripe about the strikes in France, for what they feel is worth fighting for, but our governments (and I mean governements) have never fought for exceptions and the continentals have.  Apathy or ignorance?  Apathy springs to mind.  We have small groups of animal rights protestors, greens, etc, but how many of us care enough?  Given the nature of the British beast, perhaps we should just push for being British.  After all, there are smaller countries who have done the same and we still have trade agreements with other countries which matter!

End of rant!
