Globe Artichokes

I grew 6 GAs from seed last year.  They behaved very nicely and I was very pleased with them.  This year they have grown considerably and I was thinking about moving them, but have left it too late, so they will stay there until autumn.  However, i notice that 3 of them have doubled - my neighbour is keen to take some.  How do I split them ?  Is it best left until the end of the season now ?
