Hi everyone,

I'm a reporter with the Evening Standard in London.
We're doing a story about the growing trend for people to convert their London gardens into veg patches.
To go with the stats we wanted to talk to a few real people who had done this, who would be happy to rave about the benefits of lettuce over roses in your back garden - and be photographed!

If you fit the bill could you email me with your phone number asap (or ask me further questions): elizabeth.hopkirk@standard.co.uk

Many thanks
Elizabeth

There is no growing trend to convert London gardens into veg patches but there is a long-standing and growing tendency to convert London gardens into car parks. If you want to write a story about growing veg why not do it about allotment life? There is enough variety on an allotment for you to do a good story every week for the rest of your life without telling pork pies.

Why not actually visit a real allotment and do a story about the growing trend of plot holders coverting their veg patches into beautiful flower gardens? Go out on a limb. Live a little.

You and anyone else is more than welcome to visit my plot but you would need a botanist with you before you could tell where the veg finish and the flowers begin.

I doubt if there are many Standard readers that ever venture beyond a few herbs tucked into the flower borders and I know from much humorous experience that once these herbs have been planted, the householder soon forgets where they were planted, and has deep distrust and fear of any plant not growing in a plastic wrapper with a 'sell by' date on it.
