one of two inherited apple trees on my plot blew down a couple of weeks ago and I was trying to think of things I could use the wood for. the trunk will be chopped and piled up in the wildlife corner to start off a wood pile for creepy crawlies, but I was wondering about using the twiggy ends as pea sticks :-\ if the apple tree was diseased will it affect the soil, or the peas? is there anything else I could use the wood for, or should I just have a bonfire instead?

Sounds a great idea lass... do you know anybody with a chainsaw or a wood burning stove? Apple wood is well sought after can you advertise the trunk and main branches on a collect basis?

my boss turned up on Sat afternoon with his chainsaw!
so I asked him to cut down the other apple tree while he was there (its apples were covered in black spots â€" apparently neither has been particularly healthy for a few years)
he now has about a week's supply of apple fire wood and I have a big pile of twigs ;D
