What do you do? If you have built path's and permanent beds what have the pros and cons been? Also what have you built your paths with?

I have 3 types of path. My main axis through the centre of my plot from top to bottom is 3x2ft paving slabs. The left boundary is 18inch pavings - just wide enough to walk round. The right boundary is wood a little smaller than railway sleepers. Probably 10inches wide. I then have 3 paths branching to the left and 3 to the right. These are 12inches wide. Plastic base, edging, then filled with wood chippings.

These paths give me 8 evenly sized flat beds over my plot. I also have 4 raised beds at the top end in front of my greenhouse and chicken cree. You can view the paths of my plot by clicking on this link:

I inherited concrete paths down the sides of the plot, by the hedges. They appear to have been put in shortly after the site opened in 1840, by some townie who didn't understand how much space a hedge needs. One is unusable, the other is manageable as long as I keep on top of the hedge. I'm gradually building a brick path down the middle. I have 18-inch earth paths between beds, but this needs to be increased to two feet.

Make sure your main path, at least, is wide enough for a wheel barrow!
