Seed doesn't last forever, even in a seedbank; it needs to be grown eventually, and new seed harvested for storage. Who'se going to be dealing with that I wonder, and where are they going to be grown? Svalbard certainly won't be suitable for growing very much!

agree, following out last cold weather holiday we wanted to go to Svalbard this year if we can afford it and i would love to visit this place - just a shame theres not a visitor centre or something like that....

Holding 3 million seed samples actually doesn't seem that much to me.... ???

Odd location... Assuming an asteroid does strike, super-volcanoe erupts or we are plunged into nuclear winter... That part of Norway will be deeply covered in ice, due to dust blocking out the sunlight ::)
