Watermelons

My unhealthy obsession with buying every packet of seeds I see,
has forced me to buy some watermelon seeds.

I've never grown them before, I was wondering what sort of support they need (if any).
I looked up some pictures, but they weren't much help.


How big are the plants, and do they spread out like pumpkins.

I grew watermelons last year up some supports, but this year I'm going to try them outdoors and let them trail like my squashes.  My plant last year wasn't that big, but I don't know if that is typical of all watermelons, it was 'Blacktail mountain'.
