Especially love the Bergenia and snowdrops. So the Hellebores aren't ahead of themselves?

Georgie

Thanks.  No, H. Niger is the 'Christmas Rose' but it tends to flower in January.   :)

How lovely Georgie.  Very jealous, all we have is one lonely cyclamen coum, and a hellebore.....   Found a few sprouting bulbs under the ten foot square of low growing conifer we hacked out today so fingers crossed for those.....

Hi Georgie I've got Arum Italicum growing in my garden,  have never thought to put it in a pot, :P. Did you grow it from seed?, if so how and when,or did you spit a plant and then pot it up?. the plant in your pot would give any Hosta a run for it's money...just brill. :)

i always love your pictures georgie. your plants always seem to look so happy and colourful. and i love how you always seem to top up your pots with gravel. i've tried doing that but come repotting time, it goes everywhere and then i don't know what i should do with dirty gravel. i can't be bothered to put it into something and put a hose on it lol.

It's a bulb, and I assume the bulbs do spread, though if so, they do it pretty slowly. Mine self-seed, and take several years to reach maturity. They grow anywhere, but the only clump I have that's really doing much is one in deep shade. They seem to appreciate damp shade, and no disturbance.

Georgie

Hi Frogslegs, thanks for your kind words.  That particular pot was started with bulbs last year.  However, I gathered some seed in the summer and sowed it straight away and to my delight two have germinated so far.  As Robert says, they seem to like the shade which is why I grow them.  I've still got lots of berries around so if you you want some seed I'd be happy to send you some.

Hi Wahaj and thanks.   ;D  You know, gravel is by far the best thing for topping off pots IMHO.  It stops evaporation, keeps the weeds down, adds weight to the pots so they are less like to blow over, stops the plants getting soil-splashed when you water and to some extent deters slugs and snails (but not a lot).  When it comes to re-potting I brush the dry gravel off into a fine sieve before I water the plant.  Then give the sieve a good shake before rinsing the gravel off with a little water.  Works fine.   ;D

Hi again Georgie thanks for the kind offer of seed that would be nice, i have two plants in my garden but as yet have not flowered, had then for about 4 years is that normal for them not to have flowered in that time. ???

Robert_Brenchley

Nothing to worry about, they are slow. It might be worth moving them to see whether another position suits them better.

Georgie

I don't know how long A.Italicum takes to flower if grown from seed, Frogslegs.  The bulbs flowered in their first year but I would expect seed to take 2-3 years.  Four years sounds a bit excessive but I'm no expert.  If you would like some seed then send me a PM.   :)
