A few weeks back, I built a raised bed in my garden, filled with compost and manure and planted some raspberry canes. Would like to make better use of the space, so is there anything that can keep the canes company but not compete with them?

The Raspberries we planted in a raised bed at the back of the garden have started to explore the lawn - they are spreading... The raspberries were planted at the left hand side of the bed, with blue berries in the middle and red&white currants on the right. This year, I have spotted a raspberry growing amongst the currants. Maybe you could make it a fruity bed.

I've planted the raspberries quite close as it is. Can't remember what distance, but the recommended spacing was between X and Y, and I chose X, so don't think I should put any other large fruit canes between them.
As I understand it, raspberry roots are quite shallow, so didn't want to plant anything that was going to disturb them. How about strawberries- would they be OK do you think? And would they grow well in the manure/compost?

I've got strawberries growing among my raspberries and they seem to do okay, although this is only the third year.

I'd endorse the thing about raspberries "running". I've buried a vertical strip of strong plastic all round the bed.

Garlic is an excellent companion........ did this last year....this year doing the same but have also added a good mulch of grass........thanks Suem re the plastic idea........

Tansy is also a good companion, but be very aware if near grazzing cattle....u do not want it spreading....
How long a minute is  depends on what side of the  bathroom door you're on.
