What to do now?

We went to our plot today & took up the shallots & remaining swift potatoes. Do they have to be washed or just put into the greenhouse to dry off.

not in the greenhouse granny,too hot in there. i dont wash the onions but leave them to dry in the open air,with something over them in case of rain,then shake off mud when dry. spuds i do wash,then bring them home to store,otherwise the rats get em in my shed!

I've got a sort of greenhouse staging thingymagig in the carport under cover, should I put the shallots on that to dry. The potatoes are first earlies, does it make a difference please?

I just dry off the shallots as they are, in this weather, the greenhouse would work or just in the garage would do. But I always wash the spuds then leave to dry before storing, I know some people don't wash spuds but I like to check for damage etc.

Shallots will dry nicely outside. I tie mine in a bunch and hang them in a covered area if rain is about.
When the stalks are yellow and flexible, but not stiff and dry, they can be plaited and stored in the shed or garage. If you plait them with green leaves, they fall apart at best and rot at worst.

First early potatoes are not good keepers. Wash them and let them dry, eating any damaged ones as soon as possible, before storing for a few weeks in a DARK place or they will go green and even sprout.
