I love the jerusalem artichokes. I've seen loads of them around our site but never knew what they were, so now I do :-)

Very attractive display.   ;D  Is the Nasturtium Black Velvet?

thank you mike :)
dug up one root to try this week - still babies in spite of that ferocious greenery, and haven't developed their full flavour, I don't usually tuck in seriously until mid-November, and they will be fine left in the soil til March or so
btw these are jennym's fuseau :), expect I'll have them forever now ;D

calendula

mine never flower in as much as they don't seem to want to and I was always taught not to let them if you want big tubers - all the energy is going into the flowers - I also tend to cut mine down at this time of year to prevent the autumn gales from knocking them, this also helps them bulk up - wish mine did flower though  :'(

well there is a story to it ... I sawed them down to 4 ft thinking it was very clever in late July, and they just produced MORE flowers! I usually do the same as you calendula and recommend same, but it's rather daunting to tackle that lot :-[ I'll get around tuit after the onions and asparagus are planted ;)

just got back from the plot feeling rather sad now that the beans have been taken down and the courgettes have been dug up. Your oics have cheered me up SS
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"
