jars for jam from IKEA - beware

I had a look at the Ikea jars last week, but wasn't sure, so left it.

Plumped for some 2lb jars from Ascott (thank you, James); so, when they arrive, the green tomato pickle production line will roll into action (thank you valmarg for the recipe).

I am picking some some jars i got from freecycle tomorrow and i am hoping i might get some tomatos before the bad weather settles. Got some plants that have started to flower so tomatoe chutney here i come!

And my courgettes are comming on so i might make something with these other then courgette fritters....

We used to make jam a lot in New Zealand where it's easy to obtain jars for jam and preserves. However for Jam we always used a cellophane seal which you put on when the jam and jar was still hot.and secured with a rubber band. When the seal dipped inwards in the centre it had created a vaccum in the jar if it didn't do this you put it in the fridge and ate it quickly. I have seen cellophane seals for Jam in my local hardware store (and jars) but you can use any jar this as way you don't need a lid.
