Here in Bournemouth plans have been afoot for some time to upgrade the allotment sites in the area.  The council have contracted out the work and now its all about to start.  theyare going to put in new, more secure perimeter fencing and renew the existing water pipes and stands.
All good news you would think.
Hmm,  it now transpires that as of 25th september when th works start we are not allowed on ;the site during the week and can only work our plots for sundays and half day saturdays. not good for me with school age children home at weekends. grrrr
Luckily i dont have a plot adjacent to the perimeter fence - if i did i would be required to relinquish (temporarily) two meters of the plot for the works.  They are expecting this to take between three and five MONTHS!.  I am really peed off.
I know th e work needs to be done but i dont see why the whole site has to be disrupted when they can only, surely, work on sections at a time.
A lot of people on the allotments are not happy with the committee and there is a lot of bad feeling towards them. i think its a shame as they have tried really hard to negotiate on our behalf.  I think originally ;the council said the site would have to close  completely for the duration.
We have such a corrupt council here it makes my blood boil.  i know they are upgrading us but they have sold of fifty plots on another site to developers in order to fund it.
This has been my first season and a massive learning curve. i was really looking forward to planning next season armed with all i have learned and was going to do so many things, but now i think i will be lucky to anything done at all expert perhaps some overwintered onions and garlic.
sorry this is so long. just needed to vent. ???

Tell them you are half jewish and you cannot work saturdays, and the other half of you go to church on the lords day. They will have to give in or they could get accused discrimination.
