We picked our first beetroot today and its in the pot. We've only had the plot 7weeks now and we have harvested oak leaved lettuce, courgettes leafbeet and now the best of all the beetroot. I put some runners in on the offchance that they would produce and the beans are setting. Ive sewn some autumn king carrots and some spring cabbage. We only have half a plot and it's nearly finished. It's been hard work but it has been worth it.We are going up to help my daughter tracy(bunjy) with her plot on saturday. We got the babbies a chair each today from the charity shop and bought her a ladies fork so she won't break her back. We took her some seeds today so that she can start growing something. I always think it's best to plant as you go along and then you are encouraged to carry on with the hard work. Thankyou for making her feel so welcome.

When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

Sow some beet and winter lettuce in cells, so you can pop things in as you take them out...

Shirley. Brilliant idea getting Tracy a ladies fork.. My old neighbour (RIP) gave me one some time ago and it has been a real help. Just couldn't cope with the heavy ones in the shed, even young Lorna borrows it.
Can't believe you have achieved so much on your allotment in such a short time (blog). Good luck to you and your husband and Tracy of course with her plot.

enjoy your beetroot! - nothing like the taste of it fresh, is there? And do you cook the beet leaves as well?

The ladies fork is a smashing gift for Tracy & I smiled at the thought of the little ones sitting on their chairs at the lottie :D They're all going to have so much fun there.

Hope you and Tony continue to enjoy your retirement  8)
