Looks like rue to me, Macca.  Can have unpleasant side effects.  Don't know much more tho'.

Georgie

Yes, it's definitely Rue.  My book says it can cause allergic reactions or phytol-photodermatitis.  I'd seek medical help.

Definitely Rue (Ruta graveolens). It is known to cause irriatation in sensitive people.
See here http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/poison/Ruta_gr.htm
I cannot find any suggested cures or aids though, so Calamine lotion?
If they have eaten the leaves then they really do need hospital treatment. Take a piece of the plant with you if you do go to A&E.

That phytol-photodermatitis is nasty.  I had hogweed on my plot so researched it and that can cause it too.

I would get medical advice too

Yes!
Get rid of the plant at all costs - evil!

thanks everyone, they are in hospital now but they reckon it's not the cause of the blisters due to the severity of the reaction. His hands look like balloons, the poor thing

Palustris

Oh dear. The trouble is there are so many things which can cause problems to sensitive skins. Euphorbia is a bad one as well as the things mentioned before. I hope the problem is soon dealt with and the swelling goes down quickly.

Sorry to hear your nephews have ended up in hospital, such a shame.   :(  As Eric says, many plants can cause an allergic reaction.  I'm fine with most things but I can't handle Borage, as much as I love to have it in the garden.    :-[

Do hope the hospital can help him soon. Just like tp send best wishes  and hope the "cause" is found quickly.

Sorry to hear their reaction was so severe, Macca, and really hope they're better soon.

Hope they are getting better soon.... Rue is def. dangerous one of its uses was as an abortifcatant.... so as Pals says not to be taken internally..... I seem to have leather rather than skin on my hands. Do you have any Aconitum (?) Monkshood in the garden? That really shouldn't be handled without gloves...
