We've just taken over the plot next door to us and we've inherited a new asparagus bed, the only problem is the bed is riddled with Mare's tail. Is it possible to move the crowns to a new area and if so what time of year is the best to do it. I should add, the bed is about 18-24 months old.

Yes, it can be transplanted, best time is probably the autumn, or perhaps February. The roots may be deep, so lift carefully with a fork. The asparagus may need an extra year to recover from being moved.

Lucky you  :)
The impossible is just a journey away ...

Thanks Curry. I'll get them moved to a weed free area in the autumn then.

Thanks again.
