Poorly parsnips

1st try at parsnips and things WERE going surprisingly well, but a couple of plants have started to droop and the smaller middle leaf off the centre of the root appears to be going black and dying.Pulled one up and the actual root looks fine but obviously somethings up. Anybody any ideas--will post a photo if helps.
