Outdoor Toms

Wow, admittedly mine have only been out  couple of weeks but mine are only just flowering. Yours are magnificent.

Were they greenhouse grown and transplanted Robert? If not then I'm going to have to start sowing much earlier, they look fab ;) I have a few flowers showing on some at the mo :-[

They were started indoors in March, grown on in a mini-greenhouse, and planted out at the beginning of June, before they started flowering. Most of the growth has been outdoors.

I've got 5 alicante, 4 gardeners' delight and 1 sunbaby. all have got varying amounts of green fruit ranging from pea size to marble size. first year of frowing toms so don't really know if that's good yet. none greenhouse raised (GD grown from seed, others bought as small plants) unless you count some time in my plastic 'greenhouse'?

I am picking tumbler and sungold now, Ferline and Gardeners delight not far off but I fear the blight is going to dent the crop. Gardeneres Delight and Sungold look like they will be the worst effected.

I was busy stripping leaves of the plants last night.

Have you got blight or are you just worrying about it?

Well, Ratte spuds have it for sure, and I am 99.9% sure that Gardeners Delight, San Marzon and Sungold toms have it as well, hence the stripping of leaves.

Boo. I had blight last year on my toms in the allotment, so this year they're alllll in pots in the back garden. Terrible to have done all the hard work and then get blighted. Most of mine now have small green toms. Yours look gorgeous, Robert! I've planted Black Krims again (2 plants), Aurora, cherry tomatoes, a mystery tomato plant I got from a charity shop, a couple of orange tomato plants (I think Golden Ponderosa, they were seeds left over from last year) and palla di fuocco.

Sympathies, Jerry, lost all mine last year - am keeping fingers crossed for happier things this year. Have nibbled about 6 Golden Nugget - see pic - my earliest by far in the ripening stakes. Had 4 plants in wallowaters, bought last year, very pleased with the results so far this year. The plant in the foreground had its wallowater jacket knocked off in the May gales but still seems to hav benefitted from the early protection.

Well with a bit of luck, spraying and stripping leaves I should save some of the fruit, I have masses of green but also plenty of red showing now so fingers crossed!

Ferline and Tigerella well ahead of all the others outdoors - this sun continues & should be picking my first 7-10 days. Beef toms in the g/house v. slow tho all set 3+ trusses.

I know what you mean about blight; my toms had it last year but the spuds escaped. At least I got some toms, and if I hadn't been so unwell I'd have had loads of chutney. The time before that they succumbed, along with the spuds, before I got a single ripe tomato, but that was a horrible wet summer and the plot kept getting flooded.

Those are from some of your seeds. I ended up with 47 plants plus some I gave away. Some are doing better than others, which is to be expected, but most have loads of green toms coming.
