Squashes and pumpkins

A question for you all.

I have some very strong looking squashes and butterbut squashes. The question is "How many fruits should I let develop on each shoot before snipping out the growing tip?"

Same question for North Atlantic Giant pumpkins where I don't want a giant but some for halloween.
