my broadies and peas have just about had it - nonly a week or so left before i give them the heave-ho

what do you guys plant after these two have finished? i am a little stuck for ideas and inspiration - i mean, there is always more lettuce and such, but what other quick crops are there? bear in mind this is this year's bean bed, so should fit into rotation - either legume or neutral.

or otherwise, if you have a better idea - tell me!

I would bang in some vetch, a legume, as a green manure and then put in the overwintering brassicas/ spring cabbage to grab the extra nitrogen at the end of August, or as you say summer salads!

Leeks for me - following both beans/peas and early spuds, I grow enough to fill both :P

Saddad,

aren't broad beans & peas legumes?
I may be wrong as i am only a beginner, but I wouldn't follow a legume with another, rather a crop of another family?

Svea

well, i want my rotation to work by year, not by plant life.
if i use an overwintering crop, then that takes most of the year to stand and grow. for the short stuff, like peas, i would rather follow with something neutral, or more legumes

this is how i see it in my twisted little mind

Like Svea, I tend to work on the basis that an area will be used for a year for the same rotation family, seems to work ok for me.

I stand corrected  :-[
I hadn't looked at it in those terms, as a year rather than just a crop....I will look more closely at the way I plan my rotation...sorry saddad  :)

That way of thinking will help simplify rotation a lot! Thanks for raising it mothy :)
