I've just been down my plot , a plot I only got at the end of april ,very overgrown, and heavy soil I've managed to dig 3 ,10ft *5ft beds for pots beans and peas and was planing on putting corgettes, marrows and pumpkins in today and to my horror I found a swamp all my pots beans ans peas have rotted in the ground and the rest of the site is to wet to dig I know we've had exceptional weather conditions but it seems to be holding water more than I'd expect .The beds I'd already dug ,to a 2 spade depth the water has stoped at the un dug sub-soil and formed a 2 spade depth muddy pond .I'm rambling now so what I'm asking is what do I do next

Don't give up; I've had situations like this myself. In my first year, my plot was under water three times. You need to ask around, and find out what causes it, and what your neighbours do. My plot slopes away from an old mill leat which is liable to flash floods, and the answer was major earthworks, which stopped it. You might have a totally different problem. If your neighbours are growing crops successfully, the chances are they already know the answer.

A couple of summers ago I had a stream literally running between my potato rows!

Ask around, are the next door plots equally soggy?

If you are in a soggy plot, there are a few things you can do about it, digging channels to drain the water is one of them, but if everything else fails I would advise you to build some raised beds so you can avoid the wet in that way. Good luck with it -I hope you can manage to save some of your crops. busy_lizzie
